DESCRIPTION

GENERAL SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:

The Plant Quality Manager is to develop, execute, and maintain an effective, plant-wide quality program that will achieve the plant’s quality objectives and will be reflective of the Corporate Quality Philosophy.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO):

Ensures that the plant produces materials that are legally compliant, safe, and meet the specified quality of its customers

  1. Ensures that the plant’s product safety and quality objectives are established, measurable, and communicated
  2. Ensures that the plant has an effective, multidisciplinary, hazard and risk management team
  3. Ensures that the plant’s product safety and quality system is documented in a manual that describes how the quality standards are to be met

Assist plant management in developing an annual Quality Improvement Plan

  1. Develop strategies to ensure continual quality, productivity, and cost-improvement systems
  2. Formulate and manage the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and systems pertaining to quality control/assurance
  3. Assist in tracking and reporting on the quality improvement plans

Serve as plant quality champion

  1. Provide direction to all functional area leaders
  2. Respond to internal, customer, and third-party audit findings in an effective and timely manner
  3. Provide leadership, for internal and external corrective actions and ensure timely responses and closure.
  4. Report on Plant’s quality performance and key performance indicators
  5. Ensure compliance with ISO 9001:2015 and FSSC 22000
  6. Setup and maintain controls and document procedures that impact quality and food safety
  7. Organize and manage quality assurance function in cooperation with customers and plant management group
  8. Oversee internal audit efforts that relate to quality, food safety, and product safety
  9. Ensure that tests and procedures are properly understood, carried out, and evaluated to ensure effectiveness
  10. Manage and oversee calibration of lab testing equipment
  11. Monitor compliance systems to ensure their effectiveness
  12. Manage Company’s quality inspection and product release programs for incoming and in process materials and components, processes, and finished goods

Supervise assigned personnel

  1. Identify employee training needs
  2. Provide documentation for employee performance evaluation
  3. Supervise lab technicians

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum [Must have to be considered for the position]:

  • Bachelor’s Degree highly preferred and/or a two-year degree combined with applicable years of experience working in a flexible packaging environment (preferably 3-5 years)
  • A working knowledge of statistical quality control and DOE
  • Minimum of 4 years management experience
  • Problem-solving training and experience, (i.e., Kepner-Tregoe Doe, Crosby, etc.)

Desired [Will provide job holder with added skill(s) to perform duties]:

  • Technical degree and 8 years of experience in a flexible packaging environment
  • ASQC certification preferred.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Exposure to concepts of Deming, Juran, and Crosby.

The Plant Quality Manager is responsible, either directly or indirectly, for hiring, discharging, training, and reviewing the performance of those who directly report to him/her.  He/she is also responsible for maintaining a stable and high level of morale, providing technical leadership, and improving performance in both technical and managerial skills of those who work for him.

The Plant Quality Manager is responsible for playing a quality leadership role in the plant, for nurturing a cooperative relationship with all departments and personnel to help ensure effective problem resolution and a quality-oriented attitude.  The Plant Quality Manager is responsible for providing a responsive, positive, and professional image whenever dealing with customers or suppliers, both internal and external.
